You cannot simply just use metal and metal, there will have to be some filling/sanding involved to get it perfect.
Rather than welding a small piece of aluminum on the backside of the hole (then filling the hole itself with filler) all that heat generated from the welding in that small area *probably* would warp the hood to some extent, this is why i would use fiberglass (it will bond perfectly fine to the aluminum) and it will not warp anything.... then once u have the back of that hole covered, you can fill the hole in from the top side of the hood and sand it smooth.
